INTERVIEW WITH ΖERO 2 ΝOTHING

INTERVIEW  WITH CHRISTOS PEVERETOS

MELODY LANE had an interview with CHRISTOS PEVERETOS, bassist of the Greek Rock/Prog Heavy band ZERO 2 NOTHING. Don't miss their new album  ‘Limits of Temptation’ that will be released next February 26th via ART GATES RECORDS.
A very interesting band with an hybrid sound...it's very hard to put'em in a specific box!

MELODY LANE: First of all, also if it can sound a bit expected…Can you tell us where does the name ZERO 2 NOTHING come from?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: Two years ago, our singer Teo was watching Neil Degrasse Tyson"s show "Cosmos A spacetime Odyssey" and just like that the "Zero 2 Nothing" came to change "Silver Mockingbirds" (which was our previous name), of course we already wanted to change our name and find something that goes better with our music. So now you know the truth

MELODY LANE: The line-up of the band is confirmed, is it the same from the beginning of the band…or have you had changes in the last years? Can you tell us something about the roots of ZERO 2 NOTHINGAnd where the band was born?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: Zero 2 Nothing were created from the ashes of a cover band (as I said before named ‘Silver Mockingbirds’) that Teo, Rania, Bill and I created in Athens at 2014. The band was not meant to last long and it was disbanded pretty soon, since we understood that we prefer to create our own music instead. A reunion took place at 2017 and we spotted that all those years of jamming absent created bonds between us and several songs had been created before the reunion, since we all had in mind that we will meet again!! We started rehearsing like crazy and soon “Limits of Temptation”-our debut album was shaped.

MELODY LANE: Can you list us 5 songs, from  ZERO 2 NOTHING discography (including new material), that can define the sound of the band … 5 songs that can help our readers to know ZERO 2 NOTHING at the best.
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: That’s a tricky question, concerning the new material…but I cannot give any details for the upcoming songs (I will keep it a surprise for now). As a band we create music without having in mind any specific style, or trend, we create what we would like to hear. With this in mind, in our music you can find different genre influences. So, I would pick the following from the album as personal favorites:

1) Zero 2 Nothing, the groove in this song is fantastic that you really want to bounce your head

2) Running Deep in me, it’s one of the most “metal” moments of the album

3) Limits of Temptation, our stoner song directly out of the desert

4) In God’s Will, rock moment to the core (you will soon understand what I mean)

5) Bloody Mary, maybe our most dark and atmospheric inspiration

As you can understand we prefer not to have any boundaries in our creation.

MELODY LANE: Tell us something about the creative process of your music. Is there a main composer or we can talk about a team work? The songs come from ideas of a single member and then the band works on these ideas in the studio jamming together, or your songs are written in the studio and all the members compose together?CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: Yes and no. We have a very specific approach in our composition, focus on the best personal aspects of each member. Usually me and/or Bill present the music structure of a song (meaning riffs ideas etc), then Rania adds any Piano/Synth ideas supporting and enhancing those ideas and Teo is adding the Lyrics and Voice Melody linings. After that we go into the studio and polish the song’s ideas and decide if this song is indeed 150% perfect for all of us. Of course, there were songs that we decided not to add them in this first album, and most likely you will hear them in our next work.

MELODY LANE: Who writes lyrics and words in ZERO 2 NOTHING? Can you tell us something about contents and messages of the lyrics of your songs and is there a main concept behind ‘Limits of Temptation’?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: Lyrics and words in "Limits of Temptation" album are written by our singer Teo. Every song has a little story to tell, some based in real life events, some based in social messages and etc, we can talk for hours about our lyrics and their messages. The main concept behind Limits is about humanity's position on the subject of immigration, the depletion of the planet's goods and the addiction of abuses resulting from television commercials, etc....

"addiction is a nation that drains our blood to live, hear my desperation, purge is what we need"

MELODY LANE:  So apart from the codid/pandemic situation…will you tour in the next future? Have you already a touring schedule? Any chance for us to see  ZERO 2 NOTHING playing live here in Italy in the next months/year?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS:  The covid situation indeed froze almost everything in music concerts etc. We are in several discussions for participating in many festivals, especially in Summer. And yes, our schedule contains also Italy (although only for one live). Though the problem is, if those lives will take place in general…Let’s hope for the best. I would like to think, that the worst-case scenario is to skip this year and be able to tour next year at least. On the good side this leaves more time for new music ideas and songs.

MELODY LANE: Could you tell us two bands, from the actual international scene, you’d like ZERO 2 NOTHING to tour with?... Two bands that would represent a perfect line-up for  ZERO 2 NOTHING  to play with. And why these bands?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: You are opening a big chapter here, since it’s a different matter what I would prefer to tour with (as a personal dream etc) and a different aspect which is better for Zero 2 Nothing music. On the latter I would say Clutch and Five finger Death Punch would be the perfect line-up. The reason is that more or less we are influenced by their music and I believe we have music aspects from both of them. In my opinion our music is between those two great bands, since we have both metal and stoner/rock elements mixed with our personal ideas and feelings.

MELODY LANE: We know that ‘to define is to limit’… but how do you define   ZERO 2 NOTHING sound? Are you a Modern Metal band…an Alternative Prog band… Or…?

CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: It’s hard to answer on this, since as I mentioned we are not following any specific formula when we compose, but we only play what we would like to hear. But I believe most of the people are consider us as a Rock/Prog Metal band…maybe this will be clarified more in the next album. We will have to wait and see.

MELODY LANE: Which musicians are/have been your main musical inspirations? And which are your favorite bands nowadays?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: As a person I prefer more metal in my music taste (Megadeth, Slayer, Testament), followed by Rock (Guns & Roses, The Who, Kyuss) and Jazz (Pastorius, Davis, Coltrane), but I believe that if I have to choose one band, then the throne definitely belongs to Motorhead. In my opinion they have the whole package.

MELODY LANE: As a musician, what has been your biggest achievement to date and what do you want to achieve in the near future?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: Hmm not so sure what is my biggest one, since I don’t actual keep a score on this. I believe that my biggest achievement is that I’m doing what I like and also I’m very lucky to work with people that respect my work and give me the appropriate room to express my inner self though music. The goal for the future would be to add more music and also mix more genres if possible to our sound (I would love to add a funk song in the mix, with the Zero 2 Nothing touch of course)

MELODY LANE: Until today...What was the most important concert for   ZERO 2 NOTHING career?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS:  Unfortunately, the covid situation was a big obstacle for all our plans, since it started almost when we finished the album. Before that we had small gigs, nothing special (though a lot of fun). Looking forward to the upcoming gigs as soon as this “thing” lifts off.

MELODY LANE: Your debut album will be released on 26th February via Art Gates Records. Can you tell us anything about how did you get in touch with the Spanish label and were there other labels interested in your music?
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: To tell you the truth, several labels were interested in our music (most of them in Greece, Spain, Italy and Germany). What came to our surprise was the fact that so many labels wanted our music and we had too many contracts to pick from-usually most bands are not so lucky in their debut album. So, we decided to follow Art Gates Records, a well-known label, that besides the contract they provided we saw that they have the dedicated staff to understand our needs and wills.

MELODY LANE: In the end…A message from you to all MELODY LANE readers.
CHRISTOS PEVERETOS: Stay safe, do all the things that you love with passion and dedication and hope we will see you soon on the road.
